Building Conservation and Sustainable Philosophy
Our philosophy for conservation and sustainable development of the environment
is to provide a useable and comfortable finished product that does not destroy
natural habitats or deplete scarce natural resources. When dealing with existing
buildings, we have developed an approach which is respectful of the past in
a way that is consistent with the intended performance of the building and,
above all, sustainable for the future. To be effective we aim to preserve what
we have by looking after the property in an appropriate manner. Wider concerns
are taken into account in our decision making process, one that includes a ‘green’ approach
wherever possible. We use the ‘embodied energy’ in existing buildings
fabric to ensure that they remain highly functional and continue in beneficial
use, allowing them to perform as intended, and are repaired and maintained
sympathetically.
